Shockwave Therapy Solutions You Can Count On

At Verona Spine & Wellness, we are happy to announce the newest member of our team. The RPW shockwave system. The shockwave was originated or designed to deal or treat "insertional tendinopathies". In the instance of an overuse injury, the tendon is often damaged because of microscopic tears which cause inflammation, scar tissue, adhesions, or calcifications. This can restrict physical movement and physiological function and eventually turns into pain. These conditions traditionally were often resilient to the body's natural healing methods. However, now with the shockwave therapy these conditions are seeing phenomenal results. Reach out to us for more information.

Mechanisms of Healing

  • Increased blood flow. Shockwave causes microtrauma that stimulates the formation of new blood vessels.
  • Stimulates cellular repair. Shockwave activates cells that create collagen and bone.
  • Breaks down calcification. In conditions like calcific tendinitis, shockwaves can disintegrate calcium deposits, making them easier for the body to reabsorb.
  • Pain reduction.
  • Loosens tight tissues or adhesions.

Conditions Commonly Treated

  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Tennis/golfer's elbow
  • Achilles tendinopathy
  • Rotator cuff tendinopathy
  • Non-healing bone fractures
  • Myofascial trigger points

Common Questions You May Have Regarding Shockwave Therapy

  • How do the treatments last & do they hurt?

Typical treatments for one area last 4-6 minutes. Patients report that they feel soreness and a thumping sensation when the treatment head passes over inflammed areas. The level of discomfort depends on the area being treated, the severity of the condition, and the setting used.

  • Are there any side effects or contraindications?

Minimal side effects can sometimes occur such as redness of the skin, possible bruising and discomfort local to the treatment area. Contraindications include:

    • Pregnancy
    • Treatment over cancerous tumor
    • Polyneuropathy area
    • DVT
    • Anticoagulant pharmaceuticals
  • How many visits will I need?

Every condition is different but generally 4-6 treatments, potentially 8.

  • Are there any restrictions after the treatment?

It's recommended that patients don't engage in physical activity 48 hours after the treatment. After shockwave treatments patient feel remarkably better, this is due to the analgesic effect of the therapy.
